DESCRIPTION: EPW - P. Norris, Liverpool, gold fusee pocket chronometer with pivoted detent escapement, free-sprung balance and helical hairspring, 30-hour winding indicator, 51mm, 18K gold OF original case bearing Chester hallmarks for 1870, casemaker's marking in cameo is a bit indistinct with wear but appears possibly to be "S & B," gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, pivoted detent escapement of unusual form with no counterpoise to detent, capped escape wheel, free-sprung bi-metallic balance with helical hairspring, diamond endstone, gilt mvt, s#7167 with matching serial number within case and to dial. Gross weight of assembled watch 74.5 dwt (115.9 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, ticks briefly with a twist but with frequent hesitations and stoppages of the escapement that are not occurring at any readily discernible pattern and these issues become somewhat less frequent if a bit of excess reverse pressure is added at fusee, good winding indicator function, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with some mild small spots and few fine scratches, some oxide to hairspring stud; dial with edge chip at 11:30, hl below seconds-register at 5:30; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, scattered fine scratches to exterior, cuvette with profuse fine scratches from past winding and setting slips, few pinpoint nicks, no dents or dings, reduced engraving detail; tight bow; good glass crystal.
